responsibilities

  • Provide relevant information on both income and expenditure budgets for the functional area to prepare accurate financial forecasts in support of the business goals
  • Identifying, facilitating and driving synergies and collaboration opportunities across Segments, Channels and Product Houses
  • Draw up service level agreements to meet client expectations
  • Ensure quality and quantity of service delivery in support of service level agreements
  • Setting the vision and strategy as well as institutionalizing a roadmap for FNB wide IT and systems with due regard to the uniqueness of the requirements of the various Segments, Channels and Product Houses
  • Define an IT strategy in accordance with business and technological drivers and promote best practice guidelines through continuous improvement
  • Working with Segment and Business Unit CIOs to define and implement industry leading practices, policies and processes in terms of IT portfolio management, IT Risk management and governance, technology architecture etc.
  • To ensure that appropriate IT governance and controls are in place across FNB as well as compliance with regulatory controls. Representing FNB at various IT industry forums as applicable
  • Ensuring that FNB remains on the cutting edge of innovation by researching and recommending appropriate technology investments in line with the latest developments and trends.
  • Driving and directing strategic projects and material cross segment technology investments through the delivery of projects in accordance with business requirements and agreed project timelines
  • Development and mentoring of IT leaders and emerging talent across the bank

experience and qualifications

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification is a minimum requirement
  • An additional business qualification would be an advantage
  • Experience in leading a complex technical team preferably in the Financial Services.
  • A minimum of 10 years solid experience in a complex, heterogeneous and distributed IT environment.
  • Sound knowledge of JAVA, Cobol Assembler.
  • A minimum of 15 years experience as a senior IT professional in a large and complex corporate environment, preferably banking
  • A proven track record in managing IT shared services and large scale IT projects in a decentralised organisational structure
  • A tried and tested ability to manage and lead strong personalities, multidisciplinary and high performance teams
  • Experience in driving organisation wide change initiatives and securing key stakeholder buy-in
  • A sound IT functional knowledge and experience in systems development and IT operations and understanding of business processes
  • Strategic thinker, able to clearly articulate, communicate and implement a vision for IT
  • Leading a multidiscipline team
  • Sound IT functional knowledge and experience in systems development and IT operations, and good understanding of business processes

  • Setting the vision and strategy for MotoVantage as well as institutionalizing a roadmap in line with the Insurance Platform with due regard to the uniqueness of the MotoVantage business requirements,
  • Maintain a high-performance IT team; ensure a strong skills pipeline, efficient processes, culture of learning, coaching and collaboration, zero tolerance for non-performance, strong communications, personal leadership excellence leading from the front, building a “get things done” mindset, and agile IT work prioritisation supported by the MotoVantage business planning cycles.
  • Driving and directing strategic projects and material technology investments through the delivery of projects in accordance with the MotoVantage business requirements and agreed project timelines, leveraging internal prioritisation mechanisms effectively
  • Identifying, facilitating and driving synergies and collaboration opportunities across Insurance Pillar IT teams, Channels and other Product Houses, in alignment with the Group IT strategy and associated Group-wide initiatives
  • Manage the Policy Admin System and other supporting applications forming part of the MotoVantage platforms, which is a subset of the Insurance Pillar Platform, in partnership with the MotoVantage business and supported by relevant vendors
  • Manage all aspects of IT Risk, especially as related to data, security, internal bank policies and applicable standards, auditing process and outcomes (zero repeat findings)
  • Actively manage the IT budget including Opex and Capex spend, ensuring proactive management of forecast vs. budget in line with expectations
  • Own the relationship MotoVantage IT strategic vendors, managing the relationship commercially as well as operationally as required to develop a mutually beneficial partnership
  • Enable world class operations; processes, thought leadership, innovative technology and analytics through the extension and continuous improvement of existing technology capabilities and act as a trusted advisor to business
  • The ideal fit for the role:
  • Exposure to Oracle, Java & .Net technologies is an advantage
  • Experience in leading a complex technical team preferably in Financial Services
  • A minimum of 10 years solid experience in a complex, heterogeneous and distributed IT environment
  • Experience leading an IT team working in an Agile environment would be an advantage
  • A proven track record in deploying and managing large scale IT projects and solutions in a decentralised organisational structure
  • Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years in strategic and operational vendor management, particularly for an enterprise-wide deployment with a globally distributed workforce
  • A tried and tested ability to manage and lead strong personalities, multidisciplinary and high-performance teams
  • Experience in driving organisation wide change initiatives and securing key stakeholder buy-in
  • Proven ability to operate at both the strategic and detailed level
  • Driven to consistently exceed expectations, strong work ethic and perseverance, with the ability to operate “in the grey”
