Main purpose of the job
- The main purpose of this position is to coordinate and supervise MBBCh student teaching and community-based activities at primary health care clinics and community health centres, mentor students, monitor and
- evaluate learning, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, lead student projects, and organise community activities to improve healthcare delivery and educational outcomes under the guidance of the Director of UUME.
Brief Description
Key performance areas
- Co-ordinate and supervise MBBCh student teaching, learning, and community-based activities at primary health care (PHC) clinics and community health centres.
- Assist in the delivery of teaching and learning activities while providing mentorship to students, supporting their academic and professional growth.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning activities at PHC settings, implementing assessment tools to provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to integrate and innovate multidisciplinary teaching and clinical practices.
- Lead and support students in projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery quality and patient outcomes within teaching facilities.
- Organise and participate in the development and implementation of community-based activities for students.

Minimum requirements to apply for this position
- A clinical degree (Medicine/BCMP/Nursing) or a qualified Nurse with primary healthcare experience.
- Registered, and in good standing, with the HPCSA
- A South African citizen or Permanent resident of the RSA.
- A driver’s license
Abilities, qualifications or experience that would be an advantage in your application
- Experience in teaching undergraduate medical students
- Any postgraduate qualifications in medical/health professions education e.g. Postgraduate Diploma or Masters in Health Science Education
- An ability to speak two or more (includes English) of the eleven official South African languages
Desirable personal abilities of the successful applicant
- Passionate and enthusiastic educator who is keen to explore and develop new ideas in education.
- Positive work attitude and keen to engage with students
- Good administrative skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of the UUME team
- Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills, tactful, respectful, non-judgmental and punctual
- Good problem-solving skills
