Summary

To design and implement a comprehensive groupwide enterprise architecture enabling Massmart’s business strategies and the various customer value propositions across wholesale, retail and omnichannel. Further to drive simplification and optimisation of application, technical and data landscapes to deliver a competitive advantage to Massmart by continuously applying world-class architecture knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities 

Strategy definition and implementation

  • Define and implement a groupwide enterprise architecture strategy that is aligned to the overall Massmart business strategies
  • Provide input to the groupwide IT and digital strategies and the implementation thereof
  • Ensure the group enterprise architecture strategy enables divisional business strategies
  • Get approval on the enterprise architecture strategy from the group CIO

Business planning

  • Translate the enterprise architecture strategy into practical operational plans
  • Ensure operational plans are delivered and targets achieved
  • Ensure operational plans are cascaded into employee performance contracts
  • Agree to adjustment of operational plans where required with approval from the group CIO

Enterprise architectures

  • Responsible for the definition of the group enterprise architecture strategy
  • Responsible for the development of an enterprise architecture operating plan
  • Responsible for the design of appropriate groupwide enterprise architectures
  • Responsible for the groupwide delivery of enterprise architecture services within agreed SLAs
  • Ensure enterprise architectures include appropriate governance and security
  • Responsible for the delivery of group enterprise architecture services within budget
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of groupwide enterprise architectures
  • Responsible to ensure enterprise architectures make provision for business continuity

Architecture governance

  • Responsible for the definition and implementation of architecture governance principles and policies
  • Responsible for the selection and implementation of appropriate architecture models, methodologies and standards 
  • Continuously assess the maturity of the enterprise architecture against business requirements
  • Responsible for an up to date inventory of all architectures across the various domains
  • Agree architecture governance with group CIO
  • Setup an architecture board to review architecture decisions and outcomes
  • Retail architecture (Includes all front office functions)
  • Responsible for the review and agreement to the retail architecture strategy aligned to the overall enterprise architecture
  • Responsible to get agreement from the group CIO on the retail architecture
  • Accountable for the definition of a detailed roadmap to achieve the appropriate retail architecture
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged on the defined retail architecture
  • Ensure compliance across the group for the implementation of an appropriate retail architecture
  • Back office architecture (Includes all back office functions)
  • Responsible for the review and agreement to the back office architecture strategy aligned to the overall enterprise architecture
  • Responsible to get agreement from the group CIO on the back office architecture
  • Accountable for the definition of a detailed roadmap to achieve the appropriate back office architecture
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged on the defined back office architecture
  • Ensure compliance across the group for the implementation of an appropriate back office architecture
  • Data and integration architecture (Includes all master data)
  • Responsible for the review and agreement to the data and integration architecture strategy aligned to the overall enterprise architecture
  • Responsible to get agreement from the group CIO on the data and integration architecture
  • Accountable for the definition of a detailed roadmap to achieve the appropriate data and integration architecture
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged on the defined data and integration architecture
  • Ensure compliance across the group for the implementation of an appropriate data and integration architecture
  • Technical architecture (Includes all infrastructure)
  • Responsible for the review and agreement to the technical architecture strategy aligned to the overall enterprise architecture
  • Responsible to get agreement from the group CIO on the technical architecture
  • Accountable for the definition of a detailed roadmap to achieve the appropriate technical architecture
  • Ensure stakeholders are engaged on the defined technical architecture
  • Ensure compliance across the group for the implementation of an appropriate technical architecture
  • Architecture office and board
  • Responsible for the setup and maintenance of an enterprise architecture office
  • Responsible to deploy required resources to deliver enterprise architecture services
  • Ensure the implementation of required governance models in the architecture office
  • Implement required modeling tools and technical products to support service delivery
  • Service level management 
  • Agree to enterprise architecture service levels with key stakeholders
  • Accountable for the measurement and reporting of SLAs on a monthly basis
  • Accountable to provide feedback on SLAs to group CIO
  • Accountable for the continuous improvement of enterprise architecture services to meet SLAs

Business continuity

  • Provide input to current and future IT and business continuity strategies and plans 
  • Accountable for managing any potential enterprise architecture issues and risks.

Continuous improvement

  • Continuously assess the maturity of the enterprise architecture against business requirements
  • Identify improvement opportunities to reduce operating costs and working capital
  • Sign-off and monitor the delivery of business cases against identified opportunities
  • Accountable for progress against business cases 
  • Take appropriate action to ensure targets are achieved

Customer focused

  • Create a customer first culture in department
  • Engage internal customers and stakeholders on enterprise architecture services and requirements
  • Ensure SLAs are defined, measured and managed across group IT
  • Engage group IT team on opportunities to improve customer service

Vendor management

  • Manage relationships with key vendors to ensure operational excellent and cost effective service delivery
  • Agree and sign off vendor contracts and SLAs 
  • Manage key contracts

Measurement

  • Define and implement an enterprise architecture scorecard to actively manage and measure performance
  • Cascade measures into employee performance contracts
  • Report success against scorecard on a monthly basis to group CIO

Risk, governance and compliance

  • Pro-actively keep up to date with required legislative, governance and compliance requirements
  • Ensure full compliance with global and local corporate governance, financial and statutory requirements
  • Ensure the establishment of adequate internal control measures to safeguard the business and ensure the integrity of its records
  • Ensure compliance with established internal control procedures and authority levels
  • Ensure that exposure to business risks are managed and mitigated through the adoption of effective actions and measures

Financial management

  • Define and manage CAPEX/OPEX budget 
  • Track monthly CAPEX/OPEX spend
  • Interpret and provide monthly CAPEX/OPEX reports to group CIO
  • Approve budget variances
  • Authorize expenditure within annual budget 
  • Ensure necessary controls are in place to manage outcomes
  • Perform cost benefit analysis of architectural decisions
  • Define business cases to support architectural decisions

People management

  • Mentor employees 
  • Manage employee and own career development
  • Manage employee and own skills development
  • Participate in mentoring sessions by executives
  • Facilitate knowledge and skills transfer within department
  • Manage performance cycles
  • Manage talent management in department
  • Foster team building

Relationship management

  • Build relationships within divisions, group and Walmart
  • Build relationships with key vendors and service providers 
  • Proactively manage divisional relationships and expectations

Requirements 

  • Relevant post-graduate degree 

Experience

  • 10 years experience including:
  • +7 years’ experience as an enterprise architect within a corporate environment
