Position Purpose:

Support the Executive Manager: Technical Accounting in ensuring that:

  • The Group financial statements provide accurate, valid, and complete information to users, are in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Group Accounting Policies and the Group Accounting Manual in order to assist users in making timely and well-informed decisions, and
  • The Group Hedge Accounting process is applied effectively in compliance with IFRS 9 Financial Instruments, the Group Accounting policies, and related hedge accounting and risk management policies.

Position outputs:

  • Assist in the formulation, updating and obtaining approval of Group Accounting policies in accordance with IFRS and applicable legislation.
  • Assist in updating the Group Accounting Manual and related Standard Operating Procedures or guidance and ensure alignment with the approved Group Accounting Policies and IFRS.
  • Provide support to all departments and ODs on the implementation of new/updated Group Accounting Policies and IFRS.
  • Review draft and/or final contract documents and advise responsible departments on the financial accounting and reporting implications of the contracts, as well as any other commercial or risk matters identified to ensure the appropriate accounting treatment for the contracts.

  • Provide input into proposed hedges by Group Treasury, including review of underlying documents and assist Group Treasury to ensure compliance with IFRS 9 and achievement of risk management goals.
  • Assist in reviewing the hedge submissions and ensure the proposed hedges satisfy all hedge accounting and risk management requirements prior to approval.
  • Assist in the review and update of the Group Hedge Accounting documentation and ensure compliance with IFRS 9 Financial Instruments.
  • Participate in the Group Technical Committee meetings and provide input into the discussion and resolution of technical accounting/IFRS/reporting issues identified by departments and ODs that affect, or could affect other ODs or the Group financial statements to ensure consistent application of the Group Accounting policies across the Group.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to all departments and ODs on ad-hoc technical accounting/reporting issues at each OD/department as they arise.
  • Assist in the review draft Group Financial Statements and reporting templates to ensure they are complete, adequate and in compliance with IFRS and the Group Accounting policies.
  • Provide technical support to all departments and ODs during the financial year-end audit and half-year interim review to address any issues as they arise and ensure a clean audit.
  • Assist in resolving financial accounting and reporting matters raised by the external auditors on financial accounting and reporting matters during the audit and ensure timely resolution thereof.
  • Participate in the development (and/or maintenance) of IT tools that impact on or are used in the preparation of the financial statements such as the IFRS 16 and IFRS 9 Excel and Power BI tools.
  • Facilitate training of finance staff across the Group on IFRS, including industry best practice, new developments such as changes in or new accounting standards issued or proposed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CA(SA)
  • 3 years post articles
  • External Audit experience would be advantageous
  • Requirement of Trust and Honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19

  • Travel as required and approved
