Job Description
RPO Recruitment’s client, a well-established Civil and Building Contractor in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Asphalt Foreman to oversee all aspects of asphalt surfacing operations on roads, parking areas, and other civil infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site crews, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining project timelines and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily asphalt paving, patching, and surfacing activities
- Coordinate and manage site teams, subcontractors, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality control, and safety procedures
- Plan daily operations, including material ordering, plant coordination, and job sequencing
- Monitor productivity, material usage, and workmanship to minimize waste and rework
- Liaise with site engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure smooth project execution
- Conduct inspections and ensure proper compaction, levels, and surface finishes
- Prepare daily site reports, record keeping, and progress updates
- Ensure that all plant and equipment are maintained and used safely and efficiently

Requirements:
- National Diploma in Civil Engineering or similar qualification
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Asphalt or Surfacing Foreman in civil construction
- Proven experience with asphalt paving equipment and techniques
- Strong understanding of road construction materials, compaction, and quality control processes
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s licence
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when required
- Reliable and proactive with strong attention to detail
- Hands-on leader who can motivate and manage site teams effectively
- Committed to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency
