Clickatell is looking for an experienced manager to help us grow and lead a newly formed Data and Business Intelligence (BI) team. The manager will be responsible for organizing, storing and analysing data at scale as efficiently as possible, while always upholding agreed-upon security standards. This role will work closely with various stakeholders across Clickatell to ensure that Clickatell’s data is stored, managed and analysed correctly. REQUIREMENTS

The role of our Champion:

  • Manages a team of Database Administrators and Business Intelligence Developers.
  • Provide mentorship, career development guidance to team members. This should include technical mentorship, as well as soft-skills and other aspects of being effective and successful in a technical organization.
  • Plan and manage skills development and training for team members. Think carefully about areas where their skills need greatest development, or where the most opportunity for improvement exists; work with the person to identify appropriate training; and obtain budget and time allowance to complete it
  • Lead the recruitment and hiring of new team members (with the active involvement and input of the existing team members)
  • Do financial planning and budgeting for teams, including anticipating future people requirements, skills development and training needs, tools and technologies required, hardware, travel, and any other resources that people will require.
  • Bring in agility in your team functioning and provide for a transparent working environment, which will further strengthen your relationship with team members.
  • Develop a game plan for optimizing the BI platform by determining how best to use existing data analytics, architecture, and technology, and where to make improvements
  • Responsible for the database architecture in conjunction with the Architecture & Solutions group.
  • Display a keen grip on operationally affecting issues and negotiate resolution with team members for all the company’s data assets.
  • Be in regular contact with the Clickatell leadership team to ensure challenges, progress and opportunities within the company is addressed.
  • To champion internal initiatives and requirements, relevant to your team, that are identified by domain experts and are essential to the sustainability of the Clickatell Data and BI environments. Take ownership of and demonstrate understanding of the team’s backlog and future roadmap.
  • Stay up to date on industry news. Be knowledgeable about developments from our company, our competitors, and our largest customers, including financial performance, market share, product roadmap, and overall business strategy. Challenge technical teams to rise to identified challenges and threats.
  • Stay abreast of trends in the tools and technologies that teams are using. Solicit input from teams and other stakeholders on tools and technologies that could be useful. Spend time getting hands-on familiarity with these tools and technologies.
  • Possess the creativity and problem-solving skills to address and manage a host of challenges. This includes identifying issues that teams might have overlooked, such as compliance, scalability, reliability, modularity, performance and security.
  • To provide advice and assistance to teams on technical difficulties that arise while doing their work.
  • Develop, promote and implement good practices of data governance & stewardship amongst the team and company.

Management:

  • Excellent communication skills are important, since candidate will be expected to operate across multiple functional areas (engineering, operations, sales, products, and marketing) including external partners, customers and team members.
  • Ability to manage change and effectively pass on the information to concerned teams for smoother execution.
  • Delegate and allocate responsibilities efficiently to manage projects end to end.

Technical:

  • The candidate must be able to take part in discussions, offering alternative options and challenging the ideas offered by domain experts.
  • Needs to be proficient in handling the most complex of data concepts, latest tools and technologies, strong database concepts and designing techniques.
  • Solid understanding of RDBMS / NoSQL / Dimensional databases, ETL, Replication, High Availability.
  • Preferable prior experience as a DBA in MySQL; Postgres; or SQL;
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL, specifically Incident, Problem, Change, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience working in cloud architecture advantageous
  • Experience in data warehouse methodologies – Kimball,Bill
  • Up-to-date with latest technology trends driving data analytics
  • Keen interest or prior experience in machine learning (supervised learning)
  • Preferable prior experience working with Cognos, SiSense or PowerBI
  • Experience implementing complex, enterprise-wide data transformation and processing solutions.
  • Good understanding of data protection legislation and regulations, like POPIA and GDPR

  • 5+ years of proven leadership and management experience
  • 5+ experience working as DBA or BI analyst / administrator / developer
  • Be a strong people manager and leader who can help set vision and strategy and effectively manage day to day tasks to delivery.
  • Has had exposure to Agile methods.
  • Have a Tertiary education in related field
  • Be focused and passionate about customer and company success.
  • Be curious, creative, courageous and a champion of the company and our customers.
  • Have problem solving skills, logical thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Display foresight be systematic and provide orderly planning and have attention to detail.
  • Have solid negotiating skills both internally and externally.
  • Can act tactically and strategically.
