Position Purpose
To be responsible and accountable for all aspects of vessel maintenance and operation of propulsion engines, other engines, deck machinery, refrigeration and sanitary equipment aboard the vessel by coordinating and directing subordinates whilst complying with statutory laws, company policies and safety regulations, thereby ensuring maximum dredger availability.

Position Outputs
- Plan, compile and control annual lay-up maintenance to ensure that expenditure remains within the parameters set by the fleet department
- Training and development of cadet engineers and ongoing training of certified engineers to enhance marine engineering skills and practices
- Liaise with and control external contractors to ensure that the maintenance and repairs are carried out within set time frames and conform to specifications
- Liaise with the maintenance manager to ensure that critical and other spares are available timely to optimise utilisation and production of the vessel
- Ensure international and local maritime laws and practices are conformed to, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of the vessel and crew
- Control the ordering of and optimal consumption of fuel and lubricating oils, thereby optimising the utilisation of the vessel and minimising expenditure
- Plan and control preventative maintenance systems to ensure problem-free running of all machinery, thereby minimising downtime
- Practice loss control by regular inspections of machinery spaces to determine unsafe acts and correct them where necessary
- Plan and organise the preparation of the vessel to proceed to sea, ensuring that all safety measures regarding seaworthiness are intact
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate of Competency as a Second Engineer Officer endorsed Chief Engineer (Port Operations) or Second Engineer
- At least 1 to 3 years' experience working as a second engineer.

- Knowledge Standard Job Requirements Driver's license code 8 Travel as required by the business Requirement of trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19.

- Knowledge required: integrate drawings. Ability to solve technical Issues. Overall knowledge on Mechanical and electrical Equipment, high and low Voltage Company policies: (OHS ACT, Marpol Collision regulations, SOLAS, Merchant Shipping Act, IMO regulations). Skills required: Negotiations, Communication, Interpersonal skills, Analytical ability, Computer literacy.
