South African National Parks is one of the world's leading conservation and scientific research bodies and a leading proponent of maintaining the indigenous natural environment. South African National Parks, (SANParks), manages a system of parks which represents the indigenous fauna, flora, landscapes and associated cultural heritage of the country. Of all the national parks, most have overnight tourist facilities, with an unrivalled variety of accommodation in arid, coastal, mountain and bushveld habitats.
A three (3) years fixed term contract (ending March 2028) position currently exists for an Assistant: Tourism at Agulhas National Park. The successful candidate will be responsible for visitor engagement at the lighthouse museum and tower and may also be required to relieve reception staff and assist with general reception duties. The successful candidate will have to provide their own accommodation as there is no official accommodation in the park.

Responsibilities
- Welcome and engage with visitors at the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse Museum and Tower.
- Issue permits, process payments, and reconcile daily cash takings.
- Represent the lighthouse with enthusiasm and respect for its historical value.
- Provide accurate information to visitors about the park, lighthouse, and related tourism activities or facilities.
- Perform administrative duties, including visitor statistics and basic reporting.
- Maintain exhibition displays and manage inventory of museum items.
- Compile and distribute brochures and other relevant lighthouse-related information.
- Assist in supervising security and cleaning services at the lighthouse, including oversight of public ablutions.
- Perform receptionist duties at the reception office when required.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric), NCV Level 4 certificate with at least 2 years of relevant office administration or tourism-related experience.
- Proficiency in Afrikaans and English is essential; a third language will be an added advantage.
- Friendly and welcoming personality with strong verbal communication skills for engaging with both individuals and groups.
- Excellent written communication, liaison, and customer service skills.
- Skills in providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle frequent interruptions professionally.
- Must be willing to learn about heritage assets, especially lighthouses.
- Must be physically fit.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Property Management Systems will be an advantage.
- Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays.
Salary
R140,180.95 – R189,970.71
