Rand Water’s Graduate Development Programme is a structured, sector-aligned initiative aimed at capacitating the next generation of professionals in support of sustainable water management. The programme will immerse graduates in a dynamic environment, equipping them with industry-relevant skills aligned to Occupationally Directed Education, Training, and Development Practices (ODETDP).
Graduates will receive training and mentorship in the following focus areas:
- Freshwater Aquatic Sciences
- Water Technology
- Wastewater Technology
- Digital Technology and Innovation

Through hands-on training, fieldwork, laboratory work, digital tools application, and applied research, the programme aims to empower participants to meaningfully contribute to the water sector. Ultimately, graduates will be developed to potentially lead key technical streams within the Rand Water Academy Technical School, reinforcing the Academy’s long-term strategic intent of technical leadership and innovation.
Primary Duties
- As a graduate you will be exposed to the workplace and be provided with an opportunity to develop technical and professional competencies.
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must hold a relevant Master’s qualification (NQF Level 9) in the following area:
- Engineering: MEng or MSc in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering
Eligibility Criteria:
- Unemployed and have no prior work experience related to the qualification
- South African citizen with a valid South African ID
- Under the age of 35, in line with the National Skills Development Strategy III
- Possess a valid Code 08 driver’s license (advantageous)
Knowledge
- Rand Water's Mandate and its contribution to the water sector
