CEF is a Schedule 2 state-owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources. The Mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of the energy supply of South Africa and the Region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnership. It is derived from the CEF Act (No 38 of 1977) and the Ministerial directives issued thereafter.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Legal Document management & administration
- Maintain an up-to-date legal document repository, ensuring proper filing, tracking, and archiving of contracts, agreements, and regulatory filings.
- Assist in drafting and formatting legal correspondence, reports, and internal memos.
- Ensure that all contracts and legal documents are signed, stored, and accessible according to company policies.

Regulatory & Compliance support
- Assist in reviewing basic contract terms and templates under the guidance of the Senior Legal Advisor.
- Support the legal team in ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, PFMA regulations, and investment policies.
- Assist in preparing documentation for audits, board meetings, and regulatory submissions.
Litigation and case management support
- Coordinate and maintain case files, pleadings, and legal correspondence related to ongoing litigation or disputes.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, ensuring all required documentation is provided on time.
- Track litigation timelines and key milestones, keeping the Senior Legal Advisor informed.
Legal Office administration and Stakeholder engagement
- Act as the point of contact for internal and external legal inquiries.
- Schedule and organize meetings, hearings, and legal consultations.
- Manage legal department budgets, tracking invoices from external counsel and service providers.
- Ensure confidential handling of sensitive legal matters and correspondence.
- Assist in the organization of legal files, case documentation, and meeting records.
- Prepare meeting notes, presentations, and correspondence as needed to support the legal team’s activities.
- Coordination of travel arrangements for the team
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Matric and LLB or equivalent degree in Law and must be an admitted legal practitioner.
- 2-4 years’ experience performing legal administration related functions/duties
- LLM degree in the relevant field will serve as an added advantage.

DESIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES
- Experience in contract administration, legal compliance support and legal document management.
- Experience in a state-owned or highly regulated environment is desirable.
- Basic knowledge of corporate, litigation and contract law
- Familiarity with compliance standards and regulatory frameworks
