Job Summary:
Implementation and maintenance of set standards for GHG pharmaceutical services, including ensuring compliance to relevant external regulatory bodies. Prepares, compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals. Maintains all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges and inventory management. Consults with medical staff and end users regarding prescriptions, orders, ethicals and surgicals. Records, investigates and compile detailed reports of patient adverse drug reactions, medication errors and complaints.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure the effective management of the Pharmacy as per the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and the Good Pharmacy Practice.
- Ensure compliance with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), Department of Health (DOH) and other statutory and legal requirements.
- Drive a system of incident reporting, identify negative trends and implement corrective action.
- Ensure the establishment of and drive the antimicrobial stewardship program in the hospital.
- Ensure compliance to policies and processes.

- Manage and advice the delivery of cost-effective quality patient pharmaceutical care in the hospital environment
- Implement and monitor relevant processes according to quality standards, policy and regulations
- Ensure the alignment, adherence and implementation of end-to-end standard operating procedures
- Collate and address pharmacy related incident reports, complete root cause analysis and where relevant, provide staff with training and collaborate with the clinical staff to implement operational changes promoting safety
- Identify and address patient concerns in a systemic, proactive and timely manner and complete follow ups as necessary
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist
- 5 years’ experience as a Pharmacist with at least 2 years’ experience in a private hospital dispensary
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy Manager in a private hospital will be an advantage
- Understanding of relevant legislation, operating structures and relationships within a hospital environment.
- Computer proficiency – MS Office, SAP (or similar), Unisolve.
