This role is responsible for a vital part of the supply chain process in terms of managing relevant processes and systems to ensure goods are received and dispatched appropriately, and that productivity targets are met.

Responsibilities

Warehouse, Distribution & Planning     

  • Execution of FEFO/FIFO
  • Ensure that finished goods & raw material are packed correctly
  • Manage the picking of stock process
  • General housekeeping of stores and the organizing the correct storage of raw materials and packaging materials
  • Coordinate and monitor the receipt, order, assembly and dispatch of goods
  • Plan future capacity requirements
  • Responsible for reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Where appropriate, oversee the maintenance and operation of warehouse management systems and automated storage and retrieval systems.
  • Keep stock control systems up to date and make sure inventories are correct
  • Manage annual procedure updates

Quality Control & Food Safety  

  • Ensure that all products are visually QC checked and stored in the correct manner
  • Ensure that hygiene and proper sanitation practices are maintained as per the company’s food safety standards
  • Ensure that food safety rules are always followed

Hygiene and housekeeping management            

  • Ensure that proper controls are exercised over personal hygiene and protective clothing
  • Ensure that good housekeeping practices are adhered to in the front yard areas of the plant, as well as the loading and dock level area

Utilization of personnel and equipment              

  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and effectively utilized
  • Ensure that daily checks on equipment are executed
  • Ensure that all stores pedestrian doors and roll up doors remain closed as much as possible
  • Use space and mechanical handling equipment efficiently, making sure quality, budgetary targets and environmental objectives are met

Monitoring and improvement of warehouse processes 

  • Monitor existing processes and procedures to ensure maximum utilization of resources
  • Ensure accurate monthly stock counts
  • Ensure stock control processes are followed to minimize unauthorized removal of product/materials from the store or warehouse premises
  • Ensure the timeously loading of vehicles

Health and safety           

  • Ensure that store and warehouse standards are in compliance with national safety regulations
  • Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security in the work environment
  • Participate in safety forums and attend relevant training/programmes
  • Report all safety incidents to the relevant people
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures
  • Wear protective clothing (where applicable) at all times

Employee management and development

  • Ensure overall compliance to relevant procedures and policies
  • Ensure that all team members have clearly defined job profiles
  • Regular goal reviews are completed to assess achievement of results
  • Support, coaching and mentoring is continuously provided to ensure that objectives are met
  • Appropriate allocation of resources to meet operational demands
  • Ensure adequate succession planning in order to meet ongoing and anticipated business requirements

Requirements

Qualification and Experience

  • 2 Year Diploma in Warehousing/Logistics or Degree in Warehousing/Logistics or Supply Chain recommended
  • 5 Years’ relevant working experience in a FMCG or similar environment
  • Working experience with regards to stock management essential
  • Computer literacy on MS Office packages with specific reference to Excel
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous
  • Thorough understanding of financial reporting and control procedures essential
  • Familiar with HACCP or FSSC22000 recommended
