Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Packing Operator in the Packing Department to be based at the McCain Delmas site, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will report to the Packing Supervisor.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The successful incumbent is responsible for operating Sandiacre FFS machine, Ishida scales, the Loma Metal Detector and Loma Bag Weigher and box check weigher to form, fill and seal bags with the right poly and the correct weight at the required speed and quality. Adhere to safety regulations and report all faulty parts to engineering.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Minimize operational downtime through the safe and efficient operation of Sandiacre machine, Ishida scales the Loma Metal Detector and Bag Weigher box check weigher.
  • Ensure product quality through ongoing product sampling and inspection, and the implementation of corrective action where necessary.
  • Follows good manufacturing practices and ensures work-safe practices.
  • Ensure correct housekeeping and cleaning of the work area.
  • Active participation in MDI (McCain Daily Impact) process and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety standards and reporting of all incidents, accidents and unsafe acts in the area of work.
  • Stand in as a SPO (Senior Packing Operator)/Relief Operator when needed.
  • Adhere to all quality parameters.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food processing plant (Packing department).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a similar role as an Operator.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an operator certificate.
  • Knowledge of different cutting equipment will be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated technical talent and understanding.
  • Sound mechanical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Medically fit and willing to work in cold and stressful environments.
  • Willing to work shifts as and when required including over weekends.
