To lead the regional manufacturing technical and engineering function through the implementation of the Group and Regional Manufacturing and Technical strategy. This is done to meet business and customer requirements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Manage Regional Engineering Skills, Standards and Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems and processes across the Region to ensure compliance to all legal and Company requirements and standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), Coca-Cola KORE, CCBA Engineering standards.
  • Ensure compliance to the requirements of the OHSA General Machinery Regulations s2(1) requirements (“GMR 2(1)”) across all sites in the region through the appointment of Competent Engineers or acting in the role where required.
  • Monitor and control compliance to the required standards and practices through direct inspections, routine meetings, participation in routine and unplanned internal and external audits, and overseeing regional corrective action plans from such audits, including Supply Chain Maturity Assessments (SCMATs), KORE audits and internal audits.
  • Lead the Regional participation in Communities of Practice by ensuring effective collaboration between the regional plant and the greater business.
  • Develop and maintain an Engineering Resource and Skills plan for the Region in line with the organisational design and manufacturing strategy, including the Competency Acquisition Process implementation and compliance for Engineering roles.
    • Provide input to and co-ordinate with the Engineering CoE on pipeline and succession plans.
    • Lead recruitment for necessary Regional Engineering resources.
  • Coach and mentor Regional Plant, Packaging and Project Engineers in engineering best practices.

Manage Regional Manufacturing Reliability and Sustainability

  • Coordinate and monitor effective Asset Management practices and systems across the Regional Plants.
  • Develop and implement a Regional Sustainable Development programme aligned to the Company priorities and goals, to ensure continued delivery of the water, energy and waste improvement targets as set for the Region and its Plants.
  • Implement and monitor continuous improvement systems and processes across the Region to effectively identify key focus areas and priority initiatives to improve the regional cost and productivity performance.
  • Ensure the execution of and reporting against the business goals and objectives of the Region as a whole, including the financial, productivity, customer service and people dimensions.

Manage Regional Site Master Planning and Capital Expenditure

  • Review and update the Regional Site Master Plans (SMPs) to reflect current reality and identify capacity opportunities in line with the Company standards.
  • Engage with central Technical and Planning functions to establish long-range infrastructure development plans for sustainability, reliability, and capacity requirements.
  • Develop the 5-year Capital Expenditure Plan for the Region.
  • Execute the approved annual Capital Expenditure plan through project portfolio management and project execution through the Project Engineers and Technicians.
  • Review and ensure accurate asset registers for each Plant in conjunction with the Regional Finance Team and capitalise acquired assets in line with Company policy.

Skills, Experience & Education

  • A minimum of a B-Tech / BSc Mechanical /Electrical/Electromechanical
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) (Factories), or at least have passed the OHSA Law exam.
  • Other post-graduate qualifications in business/leadership or a registered Project Management Professional (PMP®) would be an additional advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of technical experience in a leadership capacity in an FMCG engineering environment.

  • Experience with Project management, with a successful track record of project and capital budget execution
  • Has experience interpreting the implications of new technology and standards
  • Experience with the evaluation and authorisation of new plant and equipment or modification work
  • Experience managing the optimisation of total usage of energy and water for the plant and provide support for site wide total energy and water usage management.
  • Knowledge of additional Legal regulations, Engineering Standards and other SABS standards (e.g. Carbon tax, waste laws, NEMWA /emissions laws, legal register, SANS 10142, SABS 400 Building Regulation, ASME code etc).
