Responsibilities and Duties

  • Repair and servicing of vehicles according to dealer/distributer standards and with the flat rate time
  • Establish parts required for service/repair to be performed and ensured correct parts are ordered
  • Report to Service Manager promptly on any additional work required
  • Obtain authorization prior to carrying out any additional work
  • Advise Management prior to fitting any major parts outside the norm for routine servicing/repair
  • Obtain technical information from the Services Manager on problem jobs
  • Adhere strictly to technical specifications as laid down by the manufacturer or as instructed by Management
  • Adhere to laid down workshop policies and procedures
  • Note the description of all work performed on the back of the Repair Order if required
  • Place all used parts in plastic bags, except oil & fuel filters and place on the passenger floor
  • All warranty replaced parts are to be tagged according to laid down rules and handed to Parts Department
  • Ensure all oils and parts used are booked out on Repair Order
  • Ensure the vehicle is kept clean as possible and use all protective items supplied
  • Ensure the workbay is kept safe, clean and tidy
  • Ensure time started and completed are entered on Repair Order
  • Report any faulty and/or broken equipment to Management
  • Ensure all special tools and equipment are used with utmost care
  • To possess a complete set of tools, as per distributor requirements, and maintain in good working order
  • Ensure a neat appearance at all times - overalls to be changed after heavy repairs
  • Accept responsibility for apprentices/helpers and impart through training/explanation/practice, the necessary skills required to perform the job correctly and thereafter to inspect/monitor the work and rectify any problems
  • Maintain cordial relationships with workshop staff

Qualifications and Skills

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Computer literate
  • Qualified motor mechanic
