The role will be responsible to implement the company’s communication strategy with emphasis on developing plans and tactics for implementation by all the operations to ensure a flow of information between all employees and stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Consolidate communication processes throughout the site
- Draft GM communication briefs and newsletter articles for the site
- Manage and ensure effective, regular communication across the site
- Be the point of contact for all communications matters
- Manage all communication platforms ensuring they are updated
- Manage events and brand positioning & visibility at the site
- Manage communication and brand guidelines and/or processes
- Manage activations at the site as per the Group/Site Communication calendar of events, i.e., special days such as World Aids Day
- Co-ordinate and facilitate logistical arrangements for all internal and external events to ensure that they are hosted in a professional manner
- Offer comms support and services to other departments when required, i.e. SED, HR, Wellness, Safety, etc.
- Financial Budgeting & Management
- Develop strong relationships with local media

You will need:
- Diploma / Degree in Public Relations, Communication or Journalism (NQF Level 7)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a communication or public relations environment
- Proven track record in the area of employee engagement and communication
- Experience in brand management
- Good writing and general communication skills
- Organising / Coordination of events
- Knowledge of Relevant Legislation governing the Mining Industry including: Mine Health and Safety Act; Minerals and Petroleum Resource Development Act; Basic Conditions of Employment Act Labour Relations Act; Environmental Conservation Act
- Experience in internal communications (employee engagement and communication)
- Knowledge of relevant evolving trends and best practices in the communication discipline
- Good working knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, planning and strategy
- Aware of existing media networks in South Africa
- Exposure to external communication (PR, Media, Advertising)
- Computer literacy: MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Valid driver’s license
Advantageous:
- A post-graduate degree in Public Relations, Communication or Journalism (NQF Level 8)
- Dealing with the media or established networks in the media industry
- Experience in the Mining Industry
