Laboratory Assistant - Anglo American

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant for our Kumba Iron Ore family at our Sishen Mine operations. This is a key role within the team where you will:

• Collect and receive samples to be sieved to dry, weigh, and split as per standards, specifications, and work instructions.
• Responsible to crush, mill and attend to pressing of samples correctly (PSD).
• Lift and handle samples and equipment and report defective equipment to the Plant Call Centre and Supervisor immediately.
• Ensure that Quality Control Processes are being monitored and reported continuously, including capturing and processing data accurately.
• Attend to waste management processes.
• Build, manage, and maintain healthy relations with stakeholders to assist in the achievement of organisational goals.
• Ensure the work environment complies with all legal, health, housekeeping, and safety practices always.
• Ensure the promotion of a safety culture to contribute to the SHEQ objectives.
• Identify unsafe practices and situations and report it to the Supervisor or SHEREP.
• Exposure or acting on a higher position.

Qualifications

• Completed Grade 12 / Equivalent.
• Completed Mathematics and Science subjects are advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Computer literacy.

Experience:

• 3 years experience working in Laboratory.
• Experience within Iron Ore Mine is advantageous.
• ISO, Laboratory Equipment and Cranes experience is advantageous.
