We have an exciting position for a Train Assistant who will be responsible to perform shunting-related duties for the loading and transporting of final ore product while meeting safety standards to ensure timely delivery of ore to clients.

Job Description
As a Train Assistant, you will provide support as required and your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the required wagons are shunted onto the correct rail according to the dispatch schedule and work order to ensure wagon availability.
- Carrying out-coupling and uncoupling of wagons for the required freight according to the instruction of the supervisor and Loco Driver.
- Operating turnout points in accordance with the standard operating procedures before train movement commences ensuring safety.
- Ensuring the safety of train movement through continuous communication (verbal and non-verbal) with the Loco Driver including all related information such as length of wagon chain etc.
- Conducting inspections of shunting yard, loading area; turnout points and related equipment; report any deviations to supervisor and colleagues to ensure a safe environment and equipment at all times as well as equipment availability.
- Comparing wagon list against actual wagon information to ensure correctness and correct information where required to ensure the accurate electronic file is created and distributed to loading station.
- Providing team members and supervisors with assistance as and when required and within own area of competence to assist in the achievement of team objectives.
- Adhering to all health and safety practices requirements and promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment
- Actively participating in safety initiative i.e SLAM, HPH
- Conducting the required safety interventions before undertaking to any tasks
- Ensuring a clear working area, legibility and visibility of safety signs and attend to spillage material to prevent contamination and pollution; keep record of actions taken.
This role is in the Processing Department at a (P6) level reporting to the Supervisor.

Qualifications
You will need to have the following:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Valid South African Driver’s license Code 10
- MQA Level 2 Processing advantageous
Experience:
- Sound knowledge and experience of Plant processes.
