Position Purpose:

Conduct effective mitigation of financial risks and enable financial sustainability of the Company. This involves producing management information and ensuring that business objectives/targets are achieved.

Position outputs:

  • Compile and provide budget directives to ODs (including financial directives).
  • Develop the Financial Plan for inclusion in the Corporate Plan.
  • Report on budgets and plans, coordinate and track initiatives (performance targets and moratorium).
  • Annual determination of shareholder value-add matrices.
  • Provide performance management information on a continuous basis in respect of performance against budgets and dynamic targets supported by root cause analyses (including opex and revenue analysis).
  • Consolidated annual volume plans and alignment for priority commodities.
  • Annual Corporate Overheads allocation to Operating Divisions and policy update.
  • Analyse, review and narrate the consolidated budgets for EXCO/Board.
  • Working capital analysis and management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A CA (SA) or CIMA Financial Management is required
  • Proven 5 years’ relevant work experience at management level
  • SAP experience
  • Trust and Honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19

Competencies:

KNOWLEDGE

  • Accounting - the ability to interpret cost reports, cash flows, variance analyses and financial statements
  • Ability to narrate financial plans
  • Link operational KPIs to financial KPIs
  • A good understanding of Economics and Transnet’s role within the economy

SKILLS

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

FINANCIAL AND ACCOUNTING MANAGEMENT

  • Review outputs of financial and cash flow analyses to develop views and guide management, and resolve significant reporting variances or recommend corrective actions where needed;
  • Design reporting and monitoring regimes to track performance against corporate objectives.

ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS (FIN TECH SYSTEMS)

  • Proactively share knowledge across the business regarding the finance systems and supporting technology;
  • Recommend new systems to automate existing processes and ways to re-engineer business process to effectively use new technology.
