Job Purpose

To develop, implement, monitor and manage the investment philosophy and entire investment offering for Wealth Management SA (WMSA) including the management of the investment brand of the WMSA solutions.  To excel in this position, you will provide insight and direction, lead investment teams, possess a sound understanding of all investment policies and guidelines, demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and maintain a strong professional worth ethic.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively engage in and take overall accountability for the investment strategy and investment processess for WMSA, including the development, implementation and maintenance of the houseview for WMSA as a divisional level.
  • Cascade expert knowledge of the WMSA investment philosophy and proposition across WMSA.
  • Develop training material and undertake training of the Distribution Team, Client Enablement Team and support teams in relation to the investment proposition.
  • Articulate the WMSA investment philosophy, proposition and houseview for WMSA team and client communication.
  • Oversee the Nedgroup Investment (NGI) active investment team responsible for the formulation of the equity houseview, the construction of the investable universe and the writing of clear and well-informed investment recommendations based on thorought research and analysis.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for the investment performance of the houseview and the investment models.
  • Manage the Head of Portfolio Management who leads the team of portfolio managers and ensure conformance to the investment philosopy and houseviews.
  • Actively collaborate and engage with the Nedgroup Investment (NGI) multi-manager, domestic and global, to whom the management of the WMSA fund solutions are outsourced and develop a deep understanding of the investment principles and process.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Advisory Team, Distribution Team and the rest of Nedbank including CIB and the treasury division in providing appropriate alternate investment and cash solutions in line with client needs; and in line with the Nedbank Strategic Portfolio Tilt initiative.



  • Ensure profitability and sustainability of the overall investment offering by keeping abreast of competitors and industry trends. Shape the investment philosophy and processes by enhancing skills of the investment teams and creating operational efficiencies.
  • Manage relationships with external investment consultants, encourage flow of referrals and negotiated fees withe external investment providers.
  • Assess peer group date and translate for wider audience, including adaptation of investment pitch in conjunction with the Distribution, Technical Advisory and Client Enablement Teams. Feed ideas and creative innovation to the same teams.
  • Identify and work closely with stakeholders to ensure team and individual objectives are achievable.
  • Monitor and act upon clients at risk, working with Distribution Team and Technical Advisory Team as needed.
  • Build profile as industry expert, presenting at conferences, providing though leadership conent and representing WMSA through media channels.
  • Work with Technical Advisory Team to deliver the Investment Governance Forum reporting and any investment policies in the business.
  • Develop relationships with key clients of the business through regular meetings and engagements on the investment philosophy and offering.
  • Develop and introduce a people strategy that will create a culture that drives the Cluster and Nedbank's vision and values including delivering on the Nedbank People Promise. Ensure that the leadership agenda has been embraced by the function by ensuring leadership relevant strategies and plans have been communicated and implemented by direct reports.
  • Support Nedbank Deep Green strategy by driving corporate citizenship and building a deep green culture through engaging division in corporate initiatives.
  • Ensure the achievement of targets by monitoring implemented Divisional EE and Transformation Plan through consultation with HR. Analyse deviations from Divisional EE and Transformation Plan and ensure recommended corrective action is appropriate and implemented.

People Specification

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree

Preferred Qualification

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) , Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
