TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally?recognised?non-profit?organisation. TB HIV Care provides health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers and people who use drugs. Purpose of the position Peer educators should be ex or current sex workers as they are a ‘peer’ and have therefore experienced the sex work industry, the context, and challenges faced by sex workers (This is a contract position renewable based on funding).

Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform place-based outreach based on the micro planning methodology to sex workers and their clients
- Distribution of safer sex commodities (male condom; female condom; lubricant)
- Provide accurate health information to sex workers on HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, SRH, harm reduction and human rights
- Refer sex workers living with HIV and TB for treatment to SR nurse or nearest health facilities
- Refer HIV negative sex workers for PrEP
- Plan and facilitate the Risk Reduction Workshops and identify themes and topics from outreach activities
- Mobilise sex workers and clients to access HTS and other health services, including taking and navigating sex workers if needed
- Continuous engagement with the public health clinics, Department of Social Development and SAPS in the area to ensure good working relationships to change negative attitudes and raise awareness on the need for services for sex workers
- Participate in learning and development opportunities provided (Trainings, Workshops, Information Sessions etc.)
- Act as a role model to strengthen positive behaviour change of sex workers
- Represent the organisation with pride and ensure you adhere to the ethos and principles
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / matric
- 1-2 years’ work experience in the sex industry or experience as a peer educator
- Proficiency in English and IsiZulu languages
- Clear criminal record
