Purpose of the job

To ensure that all physical stock movements take place according to company policy.

Required outputs: Functional

  • Pick and prepare stock for loading onto trucks in accordance with picking slips.
  • Communicate with Despatch Team Leader or Logistics Controller timeously should a product not be in the warehouse as stated on the picking slip, i.e. availability or pack size
  • Ensure FIFO system w.r.t. expired products is applied.
  • Expired products to be moved to allocated area for expired products.
  • Notify Despatch Team Leader and Warehouse Team Leader w.r.t. expired product moved to the allocated area.
  • Load and offload vehicles in accordance with documentation.
  • Ensure no discrepancies between documents and physical stock movement.
  • Ensure products (drums) are neat and clean before consolidated for despatch.
  • Damaged product in the warehouse or on a vehicle is to be repacked immediately
  • Ensure product is correctly marked or labelled once it has been repacked.
  • Communicate all discrepancies noted w.r.t. stock shortages to the Despatch Team Leader/Warehouse Team Leader as well as Logistics Controllers.
  • Required to drive a forklift, keep forklifts and battery chargers in good working condition.
  • Complete forklift checklist daily
  • To safely drive the forklift to ensure no product damage prior to loading or when unloading
  • Report any defects on the Forklift to the Despatch Team Leader/Warehouse Team Leader
  • Ensure accurate final checks of product picked and prepared for delivery
  • Palletisation of stock and barcoding of small packs
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards and cleanliness are maintained in the warehouse
  • Palletisation of stock, barcoding of small packs, packing of boxes onto pallets and shrink-wrapping.
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained in areas of responsibility
  • Report all faulty products and leaking drums to Despatch Team Leader/Warehouse Team Leader
  • Participate in stocktakes as and when required
  • Understand and adopt good warehousing and storage practises
  • Uphold and work according to all internal and external safety guidelines
  • Responsible for the storage, movement of product meeting quality standards
  • May on occasion be required to work overtime to load or unload trucks.

Qualifications & Experience    

  • Minimum education Grade 12
  • Minimum 1 years’ relevant experience in logistics, distribution, production or warehousing as a Materials Handler.
  • Must be able to a Forklift, be medically fit to drive a Forklift and be in possession of a valid Forklift driver’s license.
  • Must maintain medical fitness to drive a forklift in order to have the relevant driver’s license renewed successfully.
  • Possess excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of all Acts, i.e. hazardous chemicals, road transportation, etc.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as within a team and be deadline driven.
  • Must be able to report to the Despatch Team Leader/Warehouse Team Leader
  • Must be in good physical condition as it is a position that requires much physical activity
  • Must be very accurate and be able to work under pressure
  • Computer literate with basic computer skills
