We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to assume a senior role within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) at Stellenbosch University (SU). This is a pivotal position, responsible for advancing innovation, promoting operational excellence, and cultivating a collaborative, supportive environment and physical infrastructure for our diverse community of staff and students.
With a large and varied student population, the EMS Faculty faces unique challenges in the management of digital infrastructure, services, and physical learning spaces. The incumbent will bring a deep understanding of information technology (IT) systems and user experience, ensuring the effective operation of all computer user facilities. In addition, the role carries strategic responsibility for overseeing the planning and optimisation of both learning environments and public spaces within the Faculty.
This position reports directly to the Director: Faculty Management and forms an integral part of the Dean's management team, contributing to long-term strategic goals and operational decision-making.

Duties
- Strategic Development and Leadership: Developing and implementing strategic goals for IT and physical operations to align with and support the overall mission and objectives of EMS.
- Business Continuity: Ensuring the effective deployment and management of IT systems and physical resources to maintain operational continuity across the EMS Stellenbosch areas.
- Process Improvement and Innovation: Establishing, implementing, and refining operational processes to ensure seamless and efficient service delivery. Leading the development and implementation of innovative systems and new practices to enhance operational efficiency.
- Campus Experience: Creating a welcoming, safe, and highly functional campus experience through the management of services and facilities. This includes learning spaces, student and staff areas, computer user areas, lecture halls, and public spaces inside and outside of EMS buildings.
- IT Operations: Overseeing the successful deployment and management of IT systems, infrastructure, disaster recovery plans, security protocols, access control systems and data, servers, and software access.
- Project Management and Maintenance: Managing facility and IT projects, ensuring integration where necessary, and timely, efficient delivery.
- Financial Management: Overseeing budgeting, financial planning, and expenses for computer user areas (CUA) and related facility projects, ensuring efficient operation within budget constraints while identifying opportunities for increased revenue.
- Team Leadership: Leading and motivating a dedicated team to optimise day-to-day campus operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.
- Conflict Resolution and Crisis Management: Addressing and resolving issues that may disrupt operations or jeopardise the safety of students and staff. Leading and coordinating responses during high-priority crises.
- Collaboration: Engaging with Faculty, institutional structures, external clients, and students.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or an advanced diploma in computer science, information technology, or a related field with five years' experience as an IT operations manager, IT manager, or a similar role, OR a bachelor's degree or advance diploma in business administration or a commerce field with eight years' experience as an IT operations manager, IT manager, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud and network computing, and cybersecurity.
- Proven leadership and management experience.
- Problem solving, decision-making and project management skills.
- Sound verbal and written communication skills in English.

Recommendation
- Honours or a master's degree with a strong focus on IT and/or business administration.
- Certifications in the broad scope of ICT management.
- Strategic management and leadership experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience and/or certifications in the field of facility and health and safety management.
