Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Entry Clerk (Customs) to join our Customs Team function based in Johannesburg. A Senior entry clerk typically examines, verifies, evaluates and reports on financial, operational processes, systems and outcomes to ensure operational integrity and compliance.
In this role, you will need to:
- Provide information to customers on customs tariffs, tariff classifications and concessions, and methods of clearing goods.

- Examine all revisions to the Customs tariff and other customs reference books in order to keep up to date with charges.
- Regularly review rates and tariffs charged and recommend adjustments where deemed.
- Ensure that shipments are cleared through customs, released and delivered in the quickest possible time. Ensure refunds, provisional payments (duty and VAT) are liquidated.
- Maintaining efficient administrative procedures. Attending meetings with shipping lines and Transporters
- Ensure that bills of entry are correctly prepared and that the correct tariff heading is applied.
- Other tasks as deemed necessary by the Department Manager
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven knowledge of tariffs and customs formalities
- Previous experience within a customs broking department
- Proven experience in working in freight forwarding industry
- Ability to work under pressure
- Attention to details and accuracy is essential
