Job Summary
To provide the business with an effective and efficient central accounting and reporting function including all the required general ledger reconciliations, policies, financial controls to ensure accuracy, validity and completeness of certain central accounting general ledger accounts.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with and application of IFRS, group accounting principles and certain tax legislation.
- Responsible for the proper and timeous reconciliation of all Central Accounting General Ledger accounts in accordance with IFRS including the review on a monthly basis.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvements by developing operating plans that the team will deliver to.
- Responsible for ensuring the effective design and implementation of financial processes and internal controls within the Central Accounting environment.
- Responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective recording and reporting (including disclosure notes) of all fixed assets and tax assets register (including capital expenditure projects) in accordance with IFRS, WW policies and certain tax legislation for Woolworths Holdings and Africa countries.
- Responsible for ensuring the effective preparation of budgeted and forecast depreciation and leave pay provision for inclusion in the budget.
- Responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective recording of leave pay and bonus provisions, gift card liability, gift card clearing account, lay bye debtors, UPN, management accounting adjustments, landlord contributions and ad hoc billings (including IFRS 15 adjustments where applicable).
- Responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective recording of intercompany accounts CRV, UPN, WW Developments, VMP and Now Now (including billings for fixed and variable costs), finance leases and ad hoc billings and accruals as well as allocation of settlement discount.
- Developing key performance indicator scorecards and monitoring the team against these key performance indicators.
- Responsible for reporting packs produced on time including working capital, operational, fixed assets summary with commentary.
- Responsible for ensuring that month end deliverables are delivered timeously and accurately.
- Responsible for ensuring the adherence of Corporate and Audit requirements as well as ensuring year end audit deliverables and disclosures are achieved.
- Liaise with all relevant stakeholders internally and externally to develop strong business relationships and agree SLA’s.
- Responsible for effective people management, communication and contingency within the Central Accounting team.

Minimum requirements
- Relevant Financial qualification – experienced CA(SA) or equivalent
- Sound understanding of GAAP/IFRS & WW Financial Policies
- Sound understanding of accounting processes
- At least 1-2 years post articles experience in a commercial environment
- Experience in use of financial and decision support systems (e.g. Qlikview, Excel and Oracle)
- Experience in developing accounting processes and procedures
